What to Expect

Phases of Treatment

Free 15 minute phone consultation

If you are interested in learning more and ensuring a great fit, please reach out to me via email or phone to schedule a free 15 minute phone consult to discuss you or your child’s needs and concerns. If you would like to get started, we can also discuss fees, paperwork, and schedule the first session.

Initial Session

The initial session will generally include the following.

  1. Review the informed consent and intake paperwork.

  2. Begin the assessment phase.

  3. Collaborate on general themes for goal setting.

**With children and teens, the initial session will include caregiver(s) to consider their perspective and concerns when goals are established. We will discuss current concerns, expectations for treatment outcomes, and begin outlining a plan for treatment.

Middle to End Phase of Treatment

The therapeutic process is highly individualized, but generally includes three stages.

  1. The first stage is centered around building a trusting therapeutic relationship, learning about client’s strengths, continued informal or formal assessment, and collaboration and formulation of specific treatment goals.

  2. The next stage includes processing thoughts and emotions, implementing interventions, learning new skills & tools, the client working to meet goals outside of sessions, and consistent reflection on goals and progress.

  3. The closing stage occurs when original therapeutic goals have been met. At this time clients may express a need to create new goals, decrease session frequency, or end treatment. The length of treatment is unique to each clients’ individual needs and progress. (You have the right to end treatment at any time.)

Parent Collaboration

Caregivers will be updated and included in any safety related concerns and planning.

Treatment may include more or less involvement of caregiver(s) depending on the treatment goals. Therapy with children and adolescents is most beneficial when a high level of confidentiality is maintained. Non-pertinent information is kept confidential, however parents have the right to reach out for general updates, goals, tools, and progress. Parent consultation calls and parental support sessions are available. (Read more on the Parent Support page) Additional details outside of general updates will only be shared with the child’s permission.
